The neuropeptide toxin Omega-Agatoxin IVA is a strong P-type Ca2+ Channel selective blocker. Omega-Aga-IVA is altering the voltage-dependent gating, so that very large depolarizations are needed for channel opening. It blocks also the Q-type Ca2+-channels. These specific Ca2+-channels are essential for the release of neurotransmitters in nerve terminals of mammalians.
