Dermcidin-1L is an antimicrobial peptide found in human sweat. DCD-1L is formed from a dermcidin precursor by proteolytic cleavage. This peptide belongs to the rare group of Anionic antimicrobial peptides (AAMP), especially in humans. It was reported that in studies using DCD-1L, Dermcidin-1L was active against Gram-positive and negative bacteria and fungi. Dermcidin-1L activates human keratinocytes. DCD-1L does not show membrane permeability.
